The last day of hoodie distribution for 2013 was December 22nd, although technically the last hoodie was given out on the 23rd, as I’ll explain. Tom from Mad Bitcoins joined me again, this time with two gentlemen from his sponsor AlphaLion Technologies. We were also joined by Teresa Warmke from Fr33Aid and her two daughters. Together we joined dozens of activists from Project FEED, easily three times the number of volunteers as last month, for a truly stone soup day of giving. In addition to the hoodies from our generous contributors, and the hundreds of bag lunches from Project FEED, we distributed another 250 tooth brushes from Global Grins, 200 pairs of socks, and a few dozen blankets gathered in an impromptu donation drive.
The biggest shopping day of the year was a huge victory for bitcoiners and is proving that this new currency is approaching mass adoption. The website BitcoinBlackFriday.com reported over 500 websites that offered one day deals in bitcoin and from the looks of it people responded with purchases of all kinds of cool things for bitcoin. We got in on the action and was listed with other great charities such as AntiWar.com, Fr33Aid, the BitGive Foundation along with several other organizations collecting donations or offering a part of sales to aid in relief efforts in the Philippines.

Since September, Bitcoin Not Bombs has been fund raising for our #HoodieTheHomeless campaign, which is an entirely Bitcoin project. The fundraising is being done in Bitcoin, and the hoodies are being purchased with Bitcoin. No war dollars are exchanging hands. With the help of BitcoinStarter.com, CashIntoCoins.com, Amagi Metals, BitMit.net, Mass Appeal Inc, and the generosity of nearly 50 Bitcoin donors we were able to purchase over 150 hoodies which were ready to distribute on the eve of the first Congressional Bitcoin hearing.

I hate banks. I abandoned my Chase account in a scheduled bank run at the height of the Occupy Movement and I haven’t set foot in a bank since. So, when I heard people talking about buying Bitcoin by making cash deposits in a bank I lacked enthusiasm. But then I tried it.
